Artwork that is ready to print produces better labels
Labelay will check submitted files for common production issues before printing. The goal is to catch obvious problems early, not to redesign the artwork.
Preferred file types
Vector artwork is preferred whenever available. PDF, AI, EPS and SVG are ideal for logos, text and line art. High-resolution PSD, PNG and JPG files can also be used when they are large enough at the final print size.
Image quality
- Use original artwork whenever possible instead of screenshots or images copied from a website.
- For raster artwork, 300 PPI at final print size is a good target.
- Small low-resolution images should not be enlarged for printing.
Fonts and linked artwork
Outline fonts or embed them in the exported PDF when possible. Make sure linked images are embedded so nothing is missing when the file is opened for production.
Color
CMYK artwork is preferred for print-oriented color expectations. Screen colors, especially very bright RGB colors, can shift when printed. Exact color matching is not assumed unless a specific color-matching service is confirmed for the order.
Bleed and safe area
Artwork that reaches the edge of the label needs bleed beyond the final cut line, and important text or logos should stay safely inside the cut line. The exact production bleed and dieline specifications will be confirmed with the selected manufacturing process before launch rather than using a guessed universal measurement.
Multiple designs in one order
If your labels use the same material, finished size and finish, Labelay is being built to let you upload multiple artworks into one bulk order. You will assign a quantity to each design, and the combined quantities must equal the total label quantity.
